Personally, this is my favorite!www.mspca.org- The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' website. I'm not putting this here because Massachusetts is the best state or anything, but I have found a lot of good, reliable information here.www.peta.org- The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' website. Please note that I don't agree with BSL (Breed Specific Legislation), or some other topics that PETA supports. I thought I'd put a link to their page anyways because they have some valuable information.Wild Animal Sanctuaries:www.bigcatrescue.org- Hands down, Big Cat Rescue is the best sanctuary on the face of this earth. It is accredited by TAOS (The Association of Sanctuaries) and the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture). This sanctuary doesn't breed, buy, sell, trade, or exploit their animals in any way, and offer them a home only second best to being in the wild.www.shambala.org- The Shambala Preserve's website. Like Big Cat Rescue, it is fully accredited, and doesn't breed, buy, sell, trade, or exploit their animals. If you get a chance, you should check their website out!Animal Shelters/ Shelter Information:www.bgwchs.petfinder.com- The Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society's webpage. They have a list of available pets, information about the shelter, and pages of already adopted cats and dogs! This shelter is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky.www.saveasato.org- Save a Sato's Website. This is a non-profit organization that helps street animals in Puerto Rico, which are oftentimes abused, and starved. While this isn't really a shelter, it does send the strays to America once they are recovered enough. Some pictures are mildly graphic, so be careful. This is an excellent website! Just a note- Mia, one of my cats, was rescued via this program!www.muttcats.com/shelters - An extensive shelter directory, which is handy when trying to find a shelter near you!www.muttcats.com/shelters/nationalbreedrescue.htm- A directory of a few national purebred rescues.http://www.bestfriends.org/atthesanctuary/angelcanyon - The Best Friend's Animal Society's website. This is a massive, no-kill shelter. The website is pretty good, and if you are ever in its area, you should go see what's up!Also, a few animal tips/ warnings/facts:-It is disgusting that people wear animal fur, and skin. They were given to the animals by God, so why is it okay to take them? Also, fur farms are horrible places- so don't support them!- Never let a dog sit in the back of a pickup truck, or inside the car with the windows open without a harness. You would be surprised how many dogs have jumped out of the car, or gotten hit with flying debris. - Choke collars should not be worn as the regular collar. Many dogs literally strangle themselves when they pull too hard. Even the most well- behaved dogs have been killed, just because their owner didn't understand the dangers.- Cats are happiest as indoor cats. The lifespan of an outdoor cat is 5-6 years, while indoor cats can live to be 20 or more, with proper care. Also, they are less prone to illnesses, ticks, fleas, mites, and injuries when inside. Alternatives to having a fully outdoor cat are- leash training, creating an enclosed area in the back, or letting the cat into an enclosed deck area.- Exotics make bad pets! Breeders say they are tame, and easily handled since they are bottle raised. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Also, these animals aren't domesticated, they are wild, and will forever be wild. You can't change that. Another point is that no breeder who was breeding for conservational purposes would ever sell a cub to a person!- Boycott circuses that use animals! These poor animals suffer constantly, and many times they are beaten or shackled like slaves. I suppose they are. Think about it- they are forced to perform, caged up most of their lives, and are hardly ever happy. Many circuses (such as Barnum and Bailey and the Ringling Bros.) claim to love animals. Funny, huh? The USDA has made so many charges against them for animal cruelty it's unthinkable. - Opt to adopt! If you can't, then help out at local shelters- fundraise, volunteer, donate, etc. The possibilities are endless!Thank you for reading this, I hope you will spread the word too!-CrackleCaracal- Cat Lord
