Nov 19, 2008 - You know what is really scary about this video. The energy crisis is bad, no doubt. But what stands out, no screams out, to me is that NZ citizens were mandated to conserve electricity. With this dire situation, you would think they would do so.... as the report states, they used 4% less energy this month than a year ago. That is shocking and should be a lesson to us all, when we're asked to conserve 25, 50 or even 75% - it is not doable. Our way of life cannot survive without cheap energy.

Nov 19, 2008 - Hey it's not as bad as it sounds - We were not mandated to conserve electricity - more liked asked or reminded to turn off the ligths, flick the switch to stuff you are not using - that kinda stuff.By and large Kiwi's have got in behind it very well. I've got some more recent video that shows savings targets are going well - and that now - we are largely out of the pickle that we could have been in if we didn't start to conserve.

PeakOilNZ Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Also- they only were asking for about a 4% saving - which we have done. No blackouts or brown outs. The electricity market in NZ was reformed in the early 1990's and half the mess that we are in now relate to the market driven imperitives of those reforms - very little work done on the conservation, efficiency side - Power Companies have more interest in You the consumer using up as much as possible. That way of thinking will go the way of the Dodo very soon with the full effects of Peak Oil.
