PLEASE READ: First - I am not just some "liberal hack" here on YouTube spewing out a party line. For instance, Obama's position on ethanol as an alternative fuel is Bad policy, (McCain flip flopped on this issue too though, supporting it leading up to the Iowa caucuses). Also - I am not against more drilling; however, I am against McCain turning this rather serious issue into a political stunt - and confusing the average voter by preying on the ignorance of what is a rather complex issue. Most people (according to a Rasmussen poll just taken)http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/67_support_offshore_drilling_64_expect_it_will_lower_pricesthink that more drilling = more oil = decrease cost and less dependency on foreign oil. Well that just isnt the case...even if John McCain and the "straight talk express" say otherwise.Additionally - Whats interesting is Right this very second - the oil companies clammering for more land to drill on already have access to over 71 billion untapped barrels of offshore oil; and according to the US Dept of Interior and the Mineral Management Service, this amounts to 4/5ths of all the offshore oil available. And better yet- of all of this land that is currently available to them - how much of it are the oil companies actually utilizing right now - ohhh - only around 1/4 of it!!! Yet, somehow magically if we give them more land to drill on (even though they dont have the personnel or equipment) this will suddenly and unequivocally reduce prices and dependency on foreign oil. God I love pixies!!The idea that ONE man (Obama) is responsible for all our energy woes and dependency on foreign oil is rather ludicrous. Especially when you consider that McCain in a speech still posted on his own website and given only a few weeks ago claimed that our energy crisis has been "thirty years in the making." I couldnt agree more with you senator, remember the energy crisis of 1973 or maybe 1979. Well considering that Obama has been in Washington for 3 1/2 years and you have been there 26 years...hmmmm??John McCain's ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiTpS4MK3D8John McCain's speech on July 7, 2008:http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/News/Speeches/4c980d5b-dfd3-40a3-9663-7d14df1f1468.htmEnergy Information Adminstration and Department of Energy's 2007 Annual Energy Report: (focus on page 51) http://www.eia.doe.gov/oiaf/archive/aeo07/pdf/0383(2007).pdf#page=59Various news publications on impact of offshore drilling:http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/20/opinion/20friedman.html?_r=1&oref=sloginhttp://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/22/opinion/22friedman.html?_r=1&oref=loginhttp://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2008/07/22/MN6M11SN60.DTLhttp://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/15/opinion/15tue3.htmlhttp://www.readingeagle.com/blog.aspx?bid=4&id=16874&t=Offshore-oil-drilling-wont-solve-problehttp://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2008003394_drill18.htmlLastly - you may disagree with me, and that's fine, but one thing that has seemingly been lost here on YouTube and in general for that matter - is the ability for CIVIL discourse. Fine, disagree with me, provide an alternative argument based on solid facts and reasonable inferences...let's attempt to act like adults. Take care...Cheers-RichObama '08

Sep 11, 2008 - F* Nike? That's intelligent. And ur right we have NO jobs in this country. None at all. Right now we are in a slowdown. There's no doubt. But historically a recession comes every 5 yrs (since 1950) so we were due one. The last one was 2001-02. And the worst thing you can do in a recession is become protectionist. See the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act.

Sep 11, 2008 - Well, the war is another issue. It is looking better and better each day, and we haven't been attacked, have we? Its been 7 yrs since 9/11, and terrorists have attacked many other countries. But not us. Hmmm...maybe we should be more grateful. And I assume that by current national debt you mean the deficit. There's a big difference. But I will agree that they should have done better there. There's no doubt that unbridled spending will hurt any economy. Bush screwed that one up!

Sep 12, 2008 - How the fuck does it look better each day when we're still there? When we leave Iraq, then it'll look better. And Iraq had NOTHING to do with 911 so WTF are you talking about? Yeah we haven't had another 911, we also haven't had another Pearl Harbor. Or Oklahoma City bombing. The fuck does IRAQ have to do with that? If and when we DO get attacked again, the only thing Iraq will have to do with it is the probablility that our killing thousands of civilians there instigated it.

Sep 19, 2008 - No shit sherlock. That's why we shouldn't be giving taxbreaks to company's who outsource to other countries. We should be taxing the fuck out of them to force them to stay here. And taxing companies less who stay and employ American workers.
stewy357 Says:

Sep 19, 2008 - HEY guess what? As soon as BUSH started talking about DRILLING the price of teh barrel has been LOWERED by 33%Do Nothing Liberals want to keep OUTSOURCING THE OIL INDUSTRY.Republicans want to Keep Oil Jobs here and the money we pay for oil.Be Sane Vote Palin/McCain.
PORTUGAL1010 Says:
Sep 19, 2008 - YOu are so full of CRAP. INSIGNIFICANT????/ WTF is 33% drop in per barrel price INSIGNIFICANT? about .50Cents per gallon INSIGNIFICANT??You are WRONG on almost EVERYTHING you said. FIRST and foremost McCain has an all of the above APPROACH (drilling, nuclear, wind, solar, geothermal, tide, wave, natural gas, coal, etc.) HE NEVER EVER SAID the solution was drilling BUT CLEARLY the Drill here drill now has ALREADY brought relief in the pricing. Now lets see if you will admit it.
PORTUGAL1010 Says:
Sep 19, 2008 - Good points EXCEPT for one thing:We call then sweat shops Chinese call it a great job opportunity. Keep in mind that that same chinese worker could be unemployed or planting rice for half the wages...he is glad to work in a "sweat shop" BTW nothing wrong with sweating.Does anyone remember what an AC or Computer used to cost before they started making them in China? I remember 30 yrs AGO not many people had or could afford an AC. They cost $400-1000 (which would be maybe $3000 now)

Sep 20, 2008 - It's not even just the oil spills. How do they know that their drill has not just killed several sea creatures? (I'm not disagreeing with btw). The video is right, if we drill for oil offshore it's going to take time to bring enough oil to change things drastically. By the time it does it will be too late, with inflation and constant use of oil it won't even make a difference.
shakaama Says:

Sep 24, 2008 - this guy portugal1010 is back with the flat earth caucus.hey portugal the relief at gas prices is a direct correlation to the value of the dollar ascending. stop yelling screaming about stuff you don't know. go to your local library and educate yourself. and please don't spread your ignorance to your fellow redneck americans.

Sep 11, 2008 - I think your right. We will eventually run out of oil. If we do drill it could cause a oil spill and a lot of wild life would die. I can't believe that Sarah Palin would want more drilling in her state. Especially since it is such a beautiful state. I think the best solution is to use alternative resources like wind and solar power. I would also like for our country to get rid of our nuclear power and definitely not rely on coal because coal is the dirtiest burning power source.
