They say that Senator McCain's strong suit is the town hall debate. If this was, in fact, Senator McCain's strength, he might as well go home. Sorry... homes. While not as smirky as the first debate, Senator McCain was jittery, reptilian (the darting tongue), scattered and overall just plain creepy. At no time was this more obvious than when he referred to Senator Obama as "that one," calling to mind some of the not-so-subtle race baiting that has been the spasmodic, desperate tactic du jour for McCain and his airheaded coward of a running mate.Meanwhile, as Senator Obama spoke, Senator McCain appeared to wander aimlessly around the stage -- lurking in the shadows like a hissing "gangrel creature with an ill-favored look" -- Gollum with a mic. At one point, an African American woman was asking him about green jobs and he turned his back on her -- skulking off towards his podium presumably to pop another Ativan or whatever made him sleepily whisper many of his answers. This disrespectful gesture was on the heels of McCain correcting an African American audience member on "bailout" versus "rescue," and foreshadowed McCain's flat out refusal to shake Senator Obama's hand.Senator Obama, meanwhile, was sharp, cool and presidential. And he hit McCain hard on foreign policy -- among other things, questioning McCain's judgment on Iraq after McCain dropped his "Obama doesn't understand" line. Senator Obama also let fly on McCain's inability to "speak softly" on "bomb, bomb Iran" and "next stop Baghdad." But where Senator Obama succeeded tonight beyond the undisputed accomplishment of his first debate performance was that he seemed to speak directly to you and me tonight. He spoke to our concerns about the economy. This is probably why, on half a dozen answers, the hypnotic CNN dial lines spiked off the charts.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-cesca/that-one_b_132833.htmlCertainly, at some level, John McCain must be disgusted with himself for using the tactics perfected by the same crowd that used these tactics to derail him in 2000. Hes now curmudgeonly, even hostile, toward the press — the group he used to spend hours with every day and jokingly describe as his base.He unleashed Sarah Palin to slime their opponent and suggested that the Democrat with the foreign-sounding name who came from the Harvard Yard boutique is not on the American side.Campaigning last weekend, Palin cast their Democratic rival as someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that hes palling around with terrorists who would target their own country. The woman is sounding more Cheney than Cheney. Palin said that Obamas relationship with the former Weatherman William Ayers proved that he did not have the truthfulness and judgment to be president. Asked by William Kristol if the Rev. Jeremiah Wright should be an issue, she said, I dont know why that association isnt discussed more.Atwater gleefully tried to paint Willie Horton as Dukakiss running mate. With a black man running, its even easier for Atwaters disciple running McCains campaign to warn that white Americans should not open the door to the dangerous Other, or That One, as McCain referred to Obama in Tuesday nights debate. (A cross between The One and That Woman.)On Monday, McCain made Obama, who has been campaigning for almost two years now, sound like an ominous intruder, questioning his character and motives, telling a New Mexico crowd that even at this late hour in the campaign, there are essential things we dont know about Senator Obama ... McCain aides have been blunt in their need to change the subject from the economy. But, as with Bush Seniors re-election campaign, slithery character attacks dont scare as well when Americans are already scared about keeping their jobs and retirement savings. Maybe thats why McCain didnt bring up Ayers or Wright during the debate, instead leaving it to Sarah Barracuda.http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/08/opinion/08dowd.html?_r=1&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=all&oref=slogin

Nov 19, 2008 - "I personally don't want another Communist up here; I really am stunned that there are people as truly stupid and uninformed as yourself in this day and age"I'm stunned there are people so clueless about the realities of daily & just how much poverty exists in our so-called great North American society. I bet you don't bitch nearly as much when you are taking advantage of the healthcare system up there- at least you have a goddamn line! Down here you don't get seen if you have no green.
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - "Socialist governments are under no obligation to not treat you like shit"Yeah, its really 'shitty' to have access to healthcare just b/c you are human, or not having to go bankrupt b/c a family got really sick, or to not have to choose between putting food on your table or your medication, or have to cross over the border for affordable medication, or have paid time off for true family-values benefits like staying at home with your child. Socialist governments are such assholes!
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - All you STFU about China or North Korea or Cuba! Nobody is wanting to turn America into one of those countries. You just look like more of an asshole making that claim. Its a ridiculous argument to claim that its either the U.S. way of doing things or totally dictatorial communism. But our system is not perfect either & some things need to be done if you want to continue living in a 'great' country. You have your head in the sand if you don't realize this fact.
PensionBuilder Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - You are a typical liberal socialist cry baby. You have much to learn. You fit in with the doom and gloomers of the main stream media and your apathey comes though clearly. You live in a land of great opportunity as do we here in Canada. We are very blessed and people like yourself have the same opportunities but are not aware of them. Change your thinking and stop hoping for government to fix your challenges. Sory I forgot you like big government and hence you like the baby boy Obama.
pimpdalyrical Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Why don't you look up how many socialist governments have lived up to those promises. Most of them are guilty of numerous human rights violations and poverty levels that leave people starving to death! you have been sold a bill of goods here! Yeah, it sounds good, I just don't believe any politician that says it! Not to mention it just doesn't work out economically.
pimpdalyrical Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Jobs for the educated are only scarce when some factor comes along that keeps businesses from reinvesting their profits into manpower and innovation. Like when profits are taken as taxes before they can do any real good. Some people will end up on the bottom, as long as those in the middle have disposable income, they too will have jobs. It takes a rich guy to need maids, cooks, painters, car washers etc. Tax cuts created the tech boom, tax increase destroyed it!
pimpdalyrical Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - If it wasn't for the fact that soo many people's savings would be ruined, I would be against the bailout too. Let the businesses fail. maybe we will learn our lesson and not let government interfere in good business decisions anymore! First rule of economics (same as anything else involving money): leave emotion at the door!
doughglide Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - It won't take long but pelosi, reid and obama will take Our Second Amendment Rights away, pay reperations to increase Our Dept and screw everyone that employs people to where no jobs will be in America and all that will be left is welfare, inflation, no oil for gas because we won't have no money to buy inflated gas prices and inflated food prices and then all we'll have left is a socialist/communist Goverment which thats what democrats want total control of America ! Pro Patria doughboy

Nov 19, 2008 - Americans need to vote out every lying crooked democrat, that means all democrats out of Office ! Wake up America, democrats are bringing Our Country to it Knees. Whatever they don't steal, they get paid to protect those ripping US off, democrats take the earnings of Hard Working Americans and give that money to those who think we owe them a living and pocket what is left over. Please help get these democrat crooks out of Our Goverment ! Pro Patria doughboy
OhBoyAMarxistAmerica Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Goldhelmriel:Very good argument you make against "universal healthcare". The the USA will eventually face the same problems that GM faces now. Universal healthcare on top of the 40% of our Federal budget that is currently spent on other entitlements will bankrupt the US taxpayer as well. What do you get when you cross the DMV with an emergency room? Universal healthcare. So, hotshot, how exactly does your sainted Obama think we'll pay for this? Simple voodoo economics. McCain-Palin '08
OhBoyAMarxistAmerica Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Point of fact, goldhelmriel, only 14% of the working population makes in excess of 250K annually. Thus, increasing only their taxes, as Saint Obama proposes will not mathematically work. So, just exactly how does one raise ONLY their taxes and still provide less taxation for everyone else that actually has a job and also provide a check to those who pay no taxes currently. As far as you going to Canada WHEN McCain wins, don't let the door slam you on your ass on the way out. Good riddance.
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Good point- only 14% makes 250K annually. So why the hell are do so many idiots think McCain's plan is better for them personally? But major problems with BOTH candidates' economic proposals! The repeal of Bush's tax cuts (part of Obama's plan actually includes this), but both of them are being disingenuous in their lack of 'straight talk' with the American public with what we will have to give up to balance the budget. (cont)
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - You claim Obama's plan unlikley, but McCain's plan is even LESS likely & more ridiculous- balancing the budget while keeping Bush cuts, plus not raising ANYONE'S taxes- McCain's pipe dream.
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - BTW- under Obama, most of those receiving tax cuts actually work. "check for those who pay no taxes" the alternative is increasing social programs or letting people die in the streets...wonder which you propose?"As far as you going to Canada WHEN McCain wins, don't let the door slam you on your ass on the way out. Good riddance." That is looking less and less likely, so fuck you...hahahahaha! I'll stay & fight for those whom you enjoy kicking while they are down.
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - I know you like to pretend that people who don't work don't look "like you", but the largest percentage of poor in this country are children (children of white women). Its disgusting the Repugs would actually increase funding Medicare for seniors while voting AGAINST increasing CHIP for children (who can do nothing to help themselves and are our most vulnerable). I feel for anyone who is poor, but its unimaginable that the Repugs would pander to those who vote, and leave kids out in the cold.
OhBoyAMarxistAmerica Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - I don't see people "dieing in the streets". At least not from starvation as you insinuate. Further, the "Bush tax cuts for the wealthy" affected ANYONE making $28,000 or more. And when they were put into action, govt revenues increased 20%. Simple economics: the govt actually makes more money by the people EXCHANGING money for goods and services in taxation. Punishing people for success is counterproductive. I enjoy "kicking" no one, except liberal blatherers, like you. Enjoy Canada.
murtari Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Repugmocrats come and Repugmocrats go. Bush Admin sucked, but Obama's will blow. Vote for McCain, the slightly lesser of two evils.
snarksterkid Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Unlike Bush, Obama likes to be surrounded by smart, educated people.
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - If you don't see ppl dying from poverty, you're not looking hard enough. Try volunteering at a homeless shelter or an ER sometime- you will see it clearly.Enjoy killing my ass.
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - GM faces those problems that govts who enact universal healthcare do not, for a variety of reasons: 1.Administrative costs for managed care are very high b/c of the effort & resources used to DENY claims.2. Risk pools are smaller, thus driving up premiums for all. Univ HC would expand risk pool & reduce costs of Medicare.3. Universal hc typically has price controls- which is why Medicare(with MMA) will be fiscally insolvent way before Social Security-no price controls to drug co's.
eheidi7 Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - Have you noticed how smart and nice most Obama supporters are? They seem to talk with such skill and no vulger words. I pray.....yes pray that MCAIN WINS if does not it is from the fake votes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
snarksterkid Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - eheidi7 - 1st off if you support McCain and can't spell his name right, then please stop posting comments. It makes you and your republican party look like idiots. Well I guess you can say the same for McCain's supporters. Calling Obama the N word, a terrorist and talks of demanding his assasination. Obama/Biden 08
FugitiveSp00n Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - so wut if McCain is not that great a speaker. u dont vote on who is the better speaker and thats wut a lot of ppl do
Goldhelmriel Says:
Nov 19, 2008 - "redistribution of wealth in this country=PAYCHECK!"WTF!?! No, paychecks are payment for work you do, not a handout or 'freebie' from the wealthy. "just get an education, make yourself worth something, and go work for Microsoft!"Just that easy huh? Nevermind that such jobs are scarce compared to the jobseekers out there. If EVERYONE is educated, we will all be competing for the same jobs & needed/vital menial jobs won't get done (especially with the anti-immigration fanatics).
