Paradise Rockwritten by Johnny Sparrowperformed by Johnny Sparrow & His Bows and Arrowsissued as Gotham G7292-A, in 1953Johnny Sparrow was born in Grenada, in the British West Indies. In the mid-1940s, he played the saxophone in the Jay McShann, Lionel Hampton and Louis Armstrong orchestras, before striking out on his own in 1949 when he formed his own band. The group was based in Philadelphia, and in 1952 began recording for Irvin Ballen's Gotham label. To the best of my knowledge, this record is an original first pressing. How many were pressed on opaque red wax?

Nov 19, 2008 - Opaque is the only way Gotham released red vinyl in the early days. There were only two I knew of released this way on Gotham, The Evening Star Quaretette and The Capris. Nice to find out there was another. If this is anything like God Only Knows by The Capris, this opaque red vinyl copy was produced subsequently in the same order of the black vinyl copies. As well, the red and blue label copies (if there were blue labels) were created subsequently as well. Val Shively proved this one.
