Nov 19, 2008 - Go fuck a tomahawk with war paint

corrupt1user Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - I spoke with Howard Zinn on saturday; I asked him, if the US is an imperialist nation, why is it giving $400 billion in foreign aid? Wouldn't an imperialist nation TAKE $400 billion dollars a year, not give?He was unable to give a coherent answer. So either the US is not an imperialist nation, or the US is the most retarded imperialist nation...

KarlMarxObama Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - If you did indeed speak with Mr. Zinn:1) What is a "coherent" answer?2) 400 billion? what kind of aid? The US Aid agency gives millions of dollars every year in so-colled "political aid" which translates to informal efforts to overthrow governments that are hostile to the US.(i.e. Bolivia, Venezuela)

Grsz11 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - There are a few things with that statement. First, I'm curious where you got your figure, as it shouldn't include private aid. Also consider the % of GDP. That's nothing to the US, and many countries donate much larger percentages. Also count how much of that is military aid, like the billions we give to Israel each year.

TrueCommunist Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Soviet Union tried to expand its 'humanity', and it was hammered into submission and finally ideologically destroyed in WW2...Well done...

dcm05002 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - 400 billion in foreign aid?? what the hell are you talking about. if your referring to our war efforts that's not 'foreign aid', we gave approximately 22 billion in foreign aid in 2006. half of which goes to totalitarian states such as saudi arabia to quell civil unrest and objection to u.s. occupation, thus maintaining u.s. interests. the u.s. is an empire no goddamn doubt about it.

dcm05002 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - dude, 95% of the casualties by those "precision" guided bombs dropped in the opening stages of operation iraqi freedom were civilians. Its logged in the hospitals in Baghdad. Imagine if the Russians dropped a bomb through your rough and killed your little children. tell me your proud of this country murdering millions of people since WWII for profit and self interest. please tell me with a clear conscience that makes you proud please. 1 million iraqi's dead and counting.. for what? oil?

ahuizotl8 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - I rather listen to a proletarian who also was a soldier than a scholar with an inflated vision of the world that has only being influenced by books and not by experience..

fightforyourrights9 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Wow. I am an undergrad right now majoring in history and through my studies in American history I have come to the exact same conclusion as Mr. Zinn. The facts are out there. They cannot be denied. US history is not the history they teach in highschools. US history is bloody, war-mongering, hate-mongering, and hypocritical. Not many realize that US rhetoric is never in line with practice. The US is quite possibly the most dangerous nation in the world today.

Psykedelice Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Very good, but sadly hard to hear and so understand Viggo's voice for foreign viewers...

ihaveacomputer2 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - i think its a very interesting idea but i think that we do need to maintain a strong army because weather were good or bad at it we are the worlds superpower and we are the main american and european army and i think if we just destroyed our military there would be a world at war again i dont think there will ever be unthreatened world peace

Jordan22473 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - I dont care abought our humanity Howard Zinn should just get on board with the program. Victory can be acheved and that outways the lives of some krutz, gooks or hadjies. We will fight til we win or we are all dead.

DeanoZA Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - you are a very stupid racist... you think people will kill you if you dont kill them, thats what you are implying.. stupid americans like you make it harder for your fellow americans

waterfirerocks Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Zinn has been a soldier though, he says so in the video. The only reason he learned through the books was because of the GI Bill of Rights. I certainly understand your preference for experience over texts, but calling his vision "inflated" after he served in WW2 comes off as impolite in the least.

waterfirerocks Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - The reason why the Soviet Union was "beaten down" as you put it was due to it's economy collapsing on itself, the defecting satellites territories, and it's failed invasion of Afghanistan. If anything, WW2 reinvigorated the Soviet economy due to the response of Russian industrialism. Stalin did indeed smooth over the travesties of the war for the "honor of Mother Russia", but if the Soviet Union was beaten down in WW2, why did the US combat it politically until at least Reagan?

tantanman65 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Although Mr. Zinn is correct in his assessment,it explains why the U.S. is considered the "land of opportunity." We get what we want and don't apologize for it. That is why we are the richest and most powerful country in the world. The word you are looking for is "hegemony." Yes, the U.S. is the most dangerous for a reason. It makes the economy work! Unfortunately the world is not made to be a peaceful place. Remember the animal kingdom because we are part of it, and the strong survive.

Socinus Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - "Even the strongest single sword is no match for the unified efforts of a thousand swords". Getting what you want does not have to be at the expense of others

POTATER1228 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Actually no, if you think of it in a very cynical way, you always take at the expense of others. Someone getting something, means that someone else isn't
