Nov 19, 2008 - Religion is such a retarded conceptShame that people believe in this stuff.

ratholin Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Why wrestle to get something worthwhile out of the bible to base your morality on? By the very nature of the statement you're using your morality to decide if there is anything good in the bible. It's the same as wrestling to find something worthwhile in mein kompf, or finnegan's wake or alice in wonderland to base your morality on. Take some freaking responsibility for your own actions.

jk609 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - I dont beleive what I read in wikipedia today, why the fuck should I beleive in the bronze age version? great analogy.

DreamTheatre17 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - one thing about this is that most or at least alot of the old testement rules (ie stoning adulterers) have been changed. When Jesus died on the cross he spilt his blood to pay for our sins. (sacrifice was spilling the blood of animals to pay for their sins before the crucifixion) and A.J is right when he says we have to decide in his perspective, but they were weeded out (ie chosen for us) when Jesus died on the cross.

pecierpoldo Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - So, what are the ever so arbitrary and sometimes even harmful laws in the Bible for?

pecierpoldo Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Then what are those stupid laws in the Bible for? Like "Don't sit in the chair where a menstruating woman sat"? It's just there for fun and entertainment? Read the Old Testament, pal, and see that Moses is dead serious about his laws.

3daybrook Says:

BayerLexan Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Of course, why should one pick the 'better' lessons from the bible? To me the whole point of following stuff from the bible is because it is divinely inspired, so why are some lessons 'better' than others? On what grounds can you say one biblical lesson is 'good', and another 'bad'? You can't, unless your criteria for choosing is non-biblical, in the end defeating the purpose of the divinely inspired lessons.

BayerLexan Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - Probably the same reason the state of Missouri has the little weird bit at the bottom. When states where being surveyed, sometimes people wanted to be included in certain states, so at places they'd leave a sign saying "Barrel of whiskey x miles south" to bribe the officials to put that section in a certain state. With regard to the bible, people probably bribed rules they wanted in to it for some personal reason.

siyo4 Says:

Nov 19, 2008 - if you're able to pick which parts of the dusty book are relevant and which are not, it only proves that you don't need religion to know what's right or wrong for you.
