American English is described as such, rather than just `English', because it is a dialect, a deviation from the standard.Assuming that your profile is correct, that you're French, then you'll know that the Americans (Noah Webster) changed the spelling as a way of simplifying/removing the French influence.Ironic, n'est-ce pas? :o)
