Nov 18, 2008 - I agree there isn't really a need for the drama. I hadn't even left any comments on this until Dinguswad's video. However, I don't agree that we necessarily should respect the person OR the belief. I respect his right to have that belief and I think that's enough. As atheists we may want respect shown to us and want respect for our lack of belief, but no one is obligated to give us that respect. That is just the way it is. I don't respect Don or his belief.

Nov 18, 2008 - In the context that I allow beliefs to exist and do not overtly antagonize or discriminate against people because of them, I respect them. It's more like respecting a person's space; I don't give a fuck about the air surrounding you, but in general I'll let you have your room to move around and feel comfortable. If we want to have a conversation then that respect of the person's space is usually waived or at least the amount of space you respect is smaller.Respect is a funny word.

Nov 18, 2008 - Granted, my objection was a semantic one. I think we mostly agree.

Nov 18, 2008 - By the way, E, you always make great videos. When's the next one coming? :D

eequalsfb Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Thanks! Not sure. I'd like to get rid of that whistle I'm having on my microphone. I think my sound card is to blame.

Nov 18, 2008 - Good video. I generally feel about the same. While he has the right to hold his beliefs, and I wouldn't do anything to change that, it's not a belief I can endorse. Although he seems well intentioned and provides great educational services, I think it's important (for me at least) to show ideologically where my line is drawn.

Nov 18, 2008 - All I gotta say is that if all religious people were like DonExodus2 with their beliefs being compartmentalized and not using them to ignore reality and not enforcing them on others, I would have almost no beef with them at all. My only discourse with them in regards to religion would be to find out what they belief and why - but for the sheer purpose of discussion, not because I felt (as I feel now) that our society is in danger because of their beliefs.See what I mean?

Nov 18, 2008 - I agree with the body of your video. Some atheists like TAA (is he actually a genuine atheist, or is it all for effect?) are just as much of a threat to intellectual freedom as religious zealots: Low-brow, loud mouthed bullies, more interested in histrionic tantrums & attention seeking than any intellectual pursuit.TAA & CockMaggotX are much the same in this respect, ignorant, arrogant, & seemingly ill-educated.

Legatou0 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - Aye, it seems that if you are loud-mouthed and well, entertaining enough, people who think they agree with you will flock.

catalyst8 Says:

Nov 18, 2008 - I don't know that entertaining is quite what I'd call it. When I've seen CockmaggotX & TAA mid-diatribe, apart from revulsion I do feel genuinely embarrassed for them. Then again humour is an individual taste, so each to their own. That aside I originally forgot to say 'thanks for posting'. I look forward to your next video.

Nov 18, 2008 - I think this is true of everyone, if you think about it.
