Best 50 bucks I ever spent. This is my first attempt at playijng a mandolin ever after watching one of Brad Laird's AWESOME mandolin tutorials.... Never thought I would get the hang of mandolin since it is 8 strings, not 4, yet here I go.... This video represents about 30 minutes of actual playing after buying this thing... Can't wait till I can actually play!If you want to learn to play, check out Brad's great instructional videos here on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eyn4eES_L4sThanks man!

Jul 18, 2008 - Damn.... I gotta good wife. She loves the mandolin and now has convinced me to go pick up the acoustic bass tomorrow.... So with that, the mandolin and theremin I have 3 new instruments to learn..... What a lucky guy! Now to deal with the university and full time job..... Any ridiculously rich people out there willing to donate to my "Midlife going to university/becoming a musician" fund out there???

Jul 18, 2008 - I have mandolins and play them a little, but I don't really feel comfortable (don't like the feel) of the double strings - it's the same with my 12 string. How do you feel about it?As a fist and foremost bassist I can heartily recommend going for acoustic bass, but it is not really a self accompanying instrument. I tell people that my acoustic bass is a bass ukulele, not a bass guitar. Well it has four string not six, right? Four strings good!

Jul 19, 2008 - Thanks buddy! I did it! I went out today and bought the acoustic/electric bass.... And man oh man, LOVIN it!!! Already kicking out some floyd and wicked ass original stuff! The mandolin I really love the sound of, but the neck is even more narrow than a uke, so a little challenging... I like em all though.... However this new bass is going to be getting a heap of attention for awhile.... New vid coming.... Tomorrow!

Jul 20, 2008 - Did you buy all your instruments in China? How's the quality and price?
sirant Says:
Jul 26, 2008 - HI michalo2, yes, in fact every instrument I currently own and play (with the exception of my Lanikai uke) was bought in China. So far I have been impressed with the overall quality based on the low pricing. My favorite uke at the moment is definitely my "Palomar" brand uke I bought here for 20 bucks.... Without a doubt a great little concert uke!

Jul 18, 2008 - good job on the mandolin, I've become interested myself, I love the sound. I am doing research to find the style and model that best fits my taste. Congrats! and I'm looking forward to hearing how you feel about learning to play
