This is one of my all-time favorite performances by Connie Francis: "The Shadow of Your Smile." The song has become a jazz standard since its debut in the mid-1960s. The theme song from the film THE SANDPIPER, starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton and directed by Vincente Minnelli, it won the Academy Award for "Best Song" and a Grammy Award for "Song of the Year." It has been recorded by many great artists and was a hit for Tony Bennett. I believe Connie's version -- included on her "Movie Greats of the '60s" album -- is superb. It showcases her voice at its mid-60s peak: mature, supple, rich, clear, and nuanced.
