OK, so why did I do it?It wasn't really to irritate my wife--the "PoleDanceFan's Wife Lays Down the Law" skit was just that--a funny skit in which she was a willing volunteer actor. Although, she wasn't entirely kidding about her reservations. I think she was worried the whole floor would come down underneath our bedroom. Well, that could still happen, LOL!I read a book review in American Scientist a few days ago about the types of expertise. The writer explored the difference between people who practice in a given field versus those who theorize and discuss issues in that field. It's "talk the talk," but can you "walk the walk.?" Now it's true that both kinds of expertise are valid--after all Einstein never performed a physics experiment before he developed the theory of Relativity. But for me, after making nearly 300 comments on pole dance videos, I felt it was important, as a gesture of respect, to at least attempt to experience the difficulty of hanging on that pole--even if it was just for ten seconds. So the next time I leave a comment on a pole dance vid, I will have a very healthy respect for the ladies whose magical, graceful, wonderful athleticism lights up my computer monitor. You ladies are terrific!Thank You, Laurie, for your endless patience with all of my goofy experiments and ideas. You are the love of my life! Thanks for watching, You-Tube Polers... JoelP.S. Yes, there is a pole dance video coming!Recorded on July 23, 2008 using a Flip Video camcorder.

Jul 24, 2008 - Nice one mate, mega respect for your wife. She sounds lovely. You have given me alot to think about regarding pole fittings.

Jul 24, 2008 - Thanks! The two mounting screws at the bottom are a definite problem. They could cause a nasty skin tear. We have a craft store called Michaels. They sell styrofoam and sticky-back padding for sewing projects. So maybe I can find something to wrap around those two sharp screws at the bottom today. I really appreciate how hard it is to design a decent pole for pole dancing!

Jul 24, 2008 - Thanks! Well, I had a long vacation this year and we didn't go anywhere--trying to save money and get this boy through college. So I had a little time to try something really different this summer. A lot of my friends think I am a little crazy now, but it's been a lot of fun! Nothing wrong with shaking things up just a little now and then! Thanks for watching, and for all your sweet comments!

Jul 30, 2008 - Thanks for watching...I definitely plan to try a few things on the pole. When my son goes back to college, I can clean up that storage area, move a few things around, and make some room. I've been trying pull-ups, ab lifts, etc...

Aug 2, 2008 - Help! Can you send instructions?? Can you make a spinning one?? I am trying to get my hubby to build one for me. TY!

Poledancefan Says:

Aug 4, 2008 - Well, I'm afraid I'm not that good--I sort of winged it with the pole. It's actually just a piece of hardware scaffolding, really--not all that suitable for real poling. From listening around to the ladies who pole, the X-pole really gets raves. It goes spinny, too and is removable when mom and dad or in-laws come to visit. Check out Alena Down's forum, they have a whole thread devoted to discussing what is the best pole. Thanks for watching!
