St. Petersburg, FL: I had left my tripod in the car, so I was holding my camera by hand on my porch during a typical Florida thunderstorm. Lightning and thunder had been pretty distant up to then. Strike is 45 seconds in, left hand side of the frame. Had to put the camera down after that! I thought that the strike was on or near the street corner, but by watching this video, I saw that at least one bolt (there are 4 or 5 "sections" of bolt) struck between me and the bushes in front of the porch; that was about 4 ft away from me. Thank you for viewing - please rate this video!

Jul 8, 2008 - those are reflections of the real lightning bolt wich strikes farther away... if it was 4 ft.. you would be seriously injured or death to understand... nice catch though!!

Jul 8, 2008 - not necessarily - for one thing, I saw it with my eyes, not just through the lens; I was just pointing the camera, so I saw where it struck, and the video confirmed it. Also, I have seen lightning do weird things, including roll right over the feet of a friend of mine as a "lightning ball"; he was unhurt, untouched. And a bolt nearly struck me when I was 21 - again, just a few feet away. My hair stood on end, and I smelled like ozone, but that's all. Different strikes for different folks :-)

Jul 9, 2008 - well, then it was some positive streamer wich failed to connect with the main lightning bolt, wich still strikes farther away... if the bolt was that close you would hear the sound instantly with the strike, but in the video we see it does not instantly.. so.. the real lightning strike is still alot farther away.. but like i said.. nice catch man!

Jul 12, 2008 - No, the reason you hear the lightning after is because YouTube delays the audio a lot of times. Don't go by the audio timing in a video from YouTube.

Sep 26, 2008 - good thing that streamer you caught didn't get the main bolt or the outcome of this video would have been very different. =\ The thunder sounded weird (Corrugated thunder?!)

Sep 26, 2008 - hmmm... "corrugated thunder"... I like that - may have to use it in a poem sometime :-)
