English lyrics translated from Korean:Here fly the birds.Hundreds of them sing like ringing. Here comes a phoenix, the king of birds. And a harvest bird before the Gate of Eternal Life.Flying birds are so high in forest, where moutain stands high, valley is deep and nobody lives there. Singing antiphonal songs and enjoying the spring time, birds come and go in couples. Here flies an expert singer: cuckoo. When I go to this mountain, I hear "Sege Sege"When I go to that mountain, I hear "Sege Sesegesege"Ah~~They hover while they sing.A cheerful bird sings.A yellowbird sings in happiness. How beautiful this mountain and that mountain are.How cute these birds in mountains are.All birds sing together in happiness. In high voices, in this mountain and that mountain.Hovering around they keep singing. ----------번영화 - 새타령About this song:In ancient Korea, a peddler rang a bell to let villagers know that he was coming. The title "Birds Ring" means that the singing of birds is just like ringing a bell. "Birds Ring" is a very famous traditional Korean folk song. One may notice that it is extremely difficult to sing this song well because the singer is required to use several different singing techniques to sing it. That is, the singer must master several different singing techniques. Another interesting issue is the difference between Koreans and Japanese. Japanese folk songs are often very simple and sometimes boring to some people. This is because the Japanese love to appreciate the beauty from simpleness. On contrary, Korean folk songs generally have a lot of ornamental voices, making it very hard to perform them. I think that Byeon, Yeonghwa's performance was fabulous. Maybe she wanted to use this song to show how talented she is.----------About the singer: Byeon, Yeonghwa (Korean:번영화, Chinese:卞英花)Yeonghwa Byeon is an ethnic Korean Chinese singer, also known as the Korean Folk Song Queen in China. Yeonghwa Byeon comes from the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture of China (Korean:연변 조선족 자치주 Yeonbyeon Joseonjok Jachiju, Chinese:延边朝鲜族自治州).She won a lot of awards in China. She also won a silver medal of "Traditional Culture & Art Contest for the Ethnic Korean All Over the World" in Korea.----------About traditional Korean musical instruments. From left to right, they used the following traditional Korean musical instruments.1. Jong (Korean:종, Chinese:钟): A bronze bell 2. Janggu (Korean:장고, Chinese:长鼓): A double-headed hourglass-shaped drum generally played with one stick and one hand 3. Piri (Korean:피리, Chinese:觱篥): A cylindrical oboe with a bamboo body.4. Junggeum (Korean:중금, Chinese:中琴): A medium-sized transverse bamboo flute without buzzing membrane.5. Gayageum (Korean:가야금, Chinese:伽倻琴): A long zither with 12 strings; modern versions may have 13, 17, 18, 21, 22, or 25 strings. Also see:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_Korean_musical_instruments----------Ethnic Korean's Emblem:http://www.worldartmuseum.cn/content/413/811_1.shtmlThis emblem was designed by an ethnic Korean Chinese designer. It shows a Janggu(a hourglass drum, Chinese:长鼓, Korean:장고) and a Sangmo (a helmetlike hat with a long ribbon). They are two typical instruments used in traditional Korean folk dance called Nongak (literally farmers' dance, Chinese:农乐舞, Korean: 농악). Korean farmers often perform this kind of dance after the harvest. In the performance, a group of men wear Sangmo, which can have a very long ribbon. At a certain point in the dance, the dancers vigorously rotate their heads so the ribbons fly out like whirligigs. Janggu (a hourglass drum) is used to accompany dancers. In this emblem, two instruments together form the shape of ethnic Korean Chinese's sacred mountain: Changbai Shan (literally Everlasting White Mountain). This emblem illustrates happy atmosphere of festival and unique features of ethnic Korean Chinese. ----------번영화 - 새타령卞英花 - 鸟打铃十二届CCTV青年歌手电视大奖赛卞英花 - 鳥打鈴十二屆CCTV青年歌手電視大獎賽----------Byeon, Yeonghwa's introduction (in Chinese):http://www.cctv.com/qgds/qingge/10/11/17/index.shtmlhttp://vweb.youth.cn/cms/2004/ccylhuodong/wgy9/yxqn/200708/t20070815_574944.htmByeon, Yeonghwa's videos:http://cctv.openv.tv/tvsearch.jsp?q=%B1%E5%D3%A2%BB%A8Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YanbianYanji, the capital of YanBian Korean Autonomous Prefecture:http://www.tuniu.com/places/8088

Jul 28, 2008 - Very unusual, still beautiful performance of Sae Taryong! I was used to hear it sung in Southern Korean style, characterised by more "throat" singing, and it was interesting to compare!Kamsa hamnida!!!

Sep 7, 2008 - Well, as far as I know, it is more like a personal intepretation. It seems she is able to do the "throat" singing thing from her performance of other songs. But for this contest, I guess she decided to present this song differently.
